CASE STUDY Amazing Transformation

Working with Interior Designer Cindy VanRyn, Walden transformed the kitchen in this Palmerston - Little Italy neighbourhood home. The project required relocating the basement stairs from the back of the house to a more central location. What was a small, dark and isolated kitchen is now bright, open and functional.

"We love our new kitchen. It's so much more than we had hoped for. Whenever we have guests, they are amazed at how big the main floor of our house feels. Walden was always available to answer any questions before the project started, and responded immediately during the renovation if anything ever came up."

CASE STUDY New Custom Home

Michael and Skye bought an old bungalow as a "tear down" in the Cricket Club neighbourhood. They met with Walden soon after to discuss the style of home they wanted to build. The couple knew that they would take a hands-on approach in the design of their home but looked to Walden to help them in all aspects of managing the approvals, design, permits, tendering and construction.

"Walden's team of trades, suppliers, architects and designers did a wonderful job on our home. Michael was very involved in all the details of the design, but we relied on Bruce and Danny's direction, guidance and experience to keep us on track throughout the entire process. We love our home and would recommend Walden's services to anyone wanting to custom build."

CASE STUDY Basement Tune-up

Once or twice a year during heavy rain, the basement of this Davisville Village semi-detached home got wet. After several failed attempts at dealing with this on their own, Jessica and Mark wanted the problem solved once and for all. When Walden first visited the house, the carpets were pulled back and underpad removed to dry things out.

"The extent of this renovation was well beyond what Mark and I felt comfortable handling on our own. We met with Walden, and they made us feel very comfortable. We are so happy with the work that Walden did to completely transform our basement. The level of quality and ongoing service that they provide is outstanding."

CASE STUDY Green Renovation

To Howard and Debra, excess space translates into unnecessary costs, excess materials, more energy and a bigger environmental footprint. The couple came to Walden with environmental concerns as a priority when contemplating the full gut and rebuild of their High Park area home.

Howard came across Waldens website and decided to call and learn about Plansmart. "We liked that Walden was prepared to work within our budget. They were sensitive to our environmental concerns, as well as our requirements to be able to move back into our home within a realistic timeline."

CASE STUDY Realizing Potential

Paul and Kate recognized that their home had great potential when they bought it. The previous owners had renovated, adding more than enough space, but the house had no coherence. In a three-phase renovation, Walden helped the couple restore the natural flow their home so badly needed.

Paul heard about Walden through a co-worker. "I figured that Walden would be a good fit because their approach is very organized. And that was a good fit for me. I recognized that we were in way over our heads with this house, so we were very careful to find a company that would keep us on track. Walden did a terrific job."

CASE STUDY Renovate Or Tear Down

Bruce walked the property with Nolan and Carol soon after purchasing it. At first we considered the option of renovating the existing house, but decided instead to tear down it down and start with a blank slate. The tear down vs. renovate decision is one that many homeowners face when taking on a large scale project. For Nolan and Carol, the overriding factor was the they wanted the home to incorporate contemporary design elements.

"Walden did a great job renovating our previous home. When we decided to take on our next major project, Nolan and I contact Bruce and Danny right away. They guided us through the entire process. From finding the right architect to helping us make all the necessary decisions. We really love our new home."

CASE STUDY Complete Gut

Katie preferred a hands-on renovation, in which she would have input for both planning and building phases. She knew what she wanted but lacked the experience, technical skills or know- how to carry out this major project on her own. Walden and team assisted Katie and Jordy at every step of the way to help them find the best solutions for their dream home.

"The transparency, accountability and sense of collaboration was very appealing. Our project was well organized, any issues that came up were dealt with immediately, and we moved back into the house on schedule to the day. We had a terrific building experience with Walden"

CASE STUDY Activity Zones

The renovation to this 1920s Forest Hill home had several stages. The master plan called for improvements throughout the house to suit the active lifestyle of this young family of six. Zoning restrictions prevented enlarging the footprint of the house; the strategy, therefore, was to maximize use of existing space.

Walden has helped us squeeze every inch of usable space out of our home. We are so happy with the work that they did, the process that they use, and the high level of service that they provide. Danny was there at every step of the way to make sure that everything was taken care. We really appreciate all of his effort.

CASE STUDY Kitchen With A View

Eva and Mark both enjoy cooking. For years they made the best of a cramped, outdated kitchen in their Allenby neighbourhood home. Then the oven stopped working. On a recommendation from their neighbour they contacted Walden to assist them with their renovation.

"Our project was well organized. There was constant communication so I never had to worry that something would get overlooked. Walden's team of trades showed up every day and the renovation was finished on schedule. We are very happy with the quality of workmanship. There is not a single thing that we would change about our new kitchen."

CASE STUDY Bungalow Make-Over

Helen and Ron love the Swansea neighbourhood and wanted to turn an original 1920s bungalow into a downsizing alternative to a condo. When they first got in touch with Walden, they were unsure of how to start making this dream a reality.

"Walden helped us create such an incredible home. The house is perfect for Ron and me. Bruce came up with some great suggestions on how to make the space work. Danny was always available to take care of every detail, and all of Walden's trades were really fantastic. Everything worked out exactly the way we wanted."

CASE STUDY Main-floor Blowout

Interior designer Michelle Mawby had a vision for her own home. She chose Walden to turn her ideas into reality. This meant securing approvals and permits, coordinating and overseeing every aspect of the renovation.Michelle became part of the Walden team during her renovation and has since worked on several other Walden projects.

"I was looking for a company that I could trust to help me take my ideas and turn them into a home that I would be proud of. I learned through a disappointing experience with a previous contractor that I needed to work with someone who really cared about the little details. Walden did a fantastic job at managing all aspects of my renovation."

CASE STUDY Maximizing A Small Space

Walden first renovated Susan and David's home 14 years ago. This time around Susan needed a comfortable work space of her own. And at the same time she wanted to fix up an outdated washroom and create a more welcoming entry to the house.

"The second renovation that we did with Walden was much smaller in scope than the first one 14 years ago. David and I are every bit as delighted with how Danny and Bruce took care of our home during the renovation. We really love the attention to detail that Walden brings to the job. The quality of workmanship is terrific and you guys were always there to deal with every issue."
