Ten years after moving in, what began as a home for two became the home for four. With the shift to working from home and an increasingly active family lifestyle, the need for more space—and smarter use of it—became clear.
The renovation tackled both lifestyle needs and performance issues. Storage had always been lacking, with just one full bathroom and no dedicated space for fitness or equipment. Now, the basement features a full gym, a shared kids’ bathroom, and thoughtfully integrated storage throughout.
Comfort and efficiency were also priorities. The home, once uninsulated and inefficient, is now upgraded with high-performance aluminum windows and insulation to reduce heating and cooling losses. Heating systems include hydronic floors in the basement and electric radiant floors under all tiled surfaces, paired with fan coil and heat pump solutions for the ancillary building. While nearly all-electric, the home retains gas for the hot water tank, boiler, and fireplace.
At the heart of the renovation is a sunken living room that opens through a 16-foot sliding door onto the backyard patio, connecting indoor and outdoor living seamlessly. The result is a modern, efficient, and highly functional family home—built for both everyday living and active pursuits.
